History
Apreamare's history dates back to far off 1849 when Giovanni Aprea started to handbuild rowing and sailing boats used for fishing in Sorrento, basing his craft on the shape and form of the traditional ''gozzo sorrentino''. The family tradition continued over down to Giovanni's son Cataldo first of all and then to some of his sons and in particular the eldest son Giovanni. It was during this period, in the years following the Second World War, that the first major change was introducted with automobile motors being fitted to the boats. And so the boatyard started to produce the first ''gozzi'' used as pleasure boats, a sector which immediately bacame the most important, surpassing professional fishing boats.
Cataldo Aprea's joining the family boatyard in 1973 marked a major turning point in the running of the company and the production methods used. This is the reason why Cataldo Aprea, bursting with new, groundbreaking ideas, together with Salvatore Pollio, a constructor who picked up on the sector's great potential and creativity, decided to go it alone and opened the Apreamare boatyard in 1983.
Putting to use in a different, new way the experience gained working alongside his father, Cataldo Aprea designed and built on a small-scale his first model called Smeraldo 7, a seven meter motorized ''gozzo'' which was a great success at the 1987 Naples Boat Show.
Shipyard
The project for the new Apreamare and Ferretti Group boat production center in Torre Annunziata (Naples), began back in November 2002, is today partly completed for the land part. It provides for a new, modern boatyard in an area measuring approximately 126,000 square meters, 30,000 of which are covered.
An internal private dock is active which measures approximately 10,000 square meters and offers approximately 100 moorings with a relative sea outlet and the coastal defense structures needed in order to expand production activities and protect the cost.
The new center also features of a travel-lift able to be used on large-size boats thus making it possible to carry out quick, hassle-free inspections and testing at sea as well as haulage for all Ferretti Group crafts.
